The looks of the boards are made by embedding a paper image into a resin that is glued to fiberboard, then coated with a protective finish.
On the other hand, the top layer of engineered hardwood is a thin layer, approximately 1/8 inch, of real wood. This gives the boards a real solid hardwood flooring appearance.

Without a tongue and groove design, the boards are placed together with a factory recommended adhesive.
Engineered hardwood floorboards can be fastened to subflooring two ways. The most common way is to attach the boards to the subflooring with an adhesive the same way tile is installed. For a more secure attachment, the boards can be stapled to the subflooring with a stapler and a compressor.
